Fuerteventura is the second largest island in the chain of Spanish islands off the coast of Africa. These islands are known as the Canary Islands and can be a great destination for those travelers looking to go on a tropical holiday.

Fuerteventura holidays have so many enjoyable activities to participate in, travelers may have a hard time deciding what to do first! Of course, those travelers on a Canary Island holiday will probably want to make their first stop the beach–and Fuerteventura has some fantastic beaches. There are the shimmering sand dunes of Corralejo, and the flat beaches of Jandia. But no matter which one is chosen, make sure to relax and enjoy the sun on your Fuerteventura holiday!

After soaking up the rays, take some time to enjoy an authentic Spanish carnival! The people of Fuerteventura love to throw parties, and Carnival is no exception. In almost every town in Fuerteventura, travelers can participate in Carnival festivities that take place from January through April. These parties are more sedated during the week, and truly get started on the weekends. Carnival begins around midnight, so make sure that you are well rested and ready to have fun!

After getting your fill of Carnival festivities, take a leisurely stroll through the town centers and enjoy some retail therapy. There are plenty of quaint shops in Morro Jable, and this is a main destination for many tourist shoppers. There are also more ‘mainstream’ retail shops in Puerto Del Rosario’s shopping center, Las Rotandas. Puerto Del Rosario also has plenty of locally owned shops as well, so there are goods to suit every traveler’s taste.

Finally, for the ocean-loving travelers, there are plenty of water activities to participate in. Because of the constant winds that blow onto the coast, Fuertaventura is a great place for windsurfing. Although the sport may look intimidating at first, there are plenty of people around who are willing to help out a beginner. So be adventurous and take some risks–this will make your holiday in the Canary Islands holidays unforgettable!
